Job Description:
This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of a wide variety of recreation, sport, and special event programs. This position assists in ensuring the efficient and effective management of leisure and sport programs city wide. This position reports to the Sportplex Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures the proper allocation of all Fieldhouse program space with respect to Fieldhouse scheduling policies and assesses user fees via the annual Fees and Charges Survey.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures with regard to programming and scheduling to maintain the effective operation of the facility.
- Works cooperatively with other staff in promoting programs and services and ensuring services meet the needs of facility users.
- Ensures the coordination of special events and major athletic competitions held at the Sportplex (Lawson and Fieldhouse).
- Plans, implements, and evaluates a wide variety of sport, recreation, and special event programs.
- Assumes responsibility for the hiring, supervising, coaching and evaluation of staff to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of programs and facility operation.
- Prepares reports and undertakes analysis as required.
- Establishes, maintains, and evaluates the registration process and promotion for facility programs and services.
- Assists in the development of long- and short-range plans and objectives.
- Performs related work as required.
- Maintains and interprets statistical data and financial information on programs to allow for ongoing evaluation of services and user needs.
- Assists in the preparation and tracking of the Fieldhouse annual capital and operating budgets.
- Represents the Department at various community meetings and events.
- Assists in the development and recommends orientation, customer service and other training as required.
- Oversees the repair and replacement of all sporting equipment in the Fieldhouse in consultation with the Facilities Department.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
- Knowledge in the use of materials and equipment used in programs.
- Knowledge of the specific technical requirements needed by various sport organizations hosting provincial, national and international competitions at the Sportplex (Fieldhouse and Lawson).
- Knowledge of computer applications used in facility scheduling and programming, including word processing programs.
- Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule program activities.
- Knowledge and understanding of special populations, i.e. Indigenous, physically, mentally, and sensory impaired, lower socio-economic disadvantaged, aged and others.
- Knowledge of creative program planning, practices, and techniques.
- Ability to supervise and provide leadership to staff.
- Knowledge of a variety of sport, recreation, and fitness activities.
- Knowledge of leadership and training techniques and methodology.
