Job Description:

As a Corporate Planning Strategist you will be part of a team that ensures all elements of our Strategic Planning Framework are working together by setting and coordinating the corporate processes. You will support the alignment of the corporation to our three objectives: make transformational changes in our community, deliver excellent services to our community and manage the corporation for our community. This alignment allows the City to achieve Council’s strategic goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage with department strategy teams to determine strategic framework alignment, business requirements and develop business intelligence and recommendations that will enable effective strategy and framework implementation
  • Support the development, analysis and opportunity for corporate processes. Work with teams to implement and incorporate into strategic planning
  • Support with the development of Council Reports, briefings and other presentation material
  • Manage projects successfully to time, quality and budget in support of initiatives and goals that have cross-department or cross-corporate impacts
  • Support the process development, integration and analysis for Enterprise Risk Management and Enterprise Performance Management data and information with business planning
  • Perform related duties as required
  • Research emerging trends
  • Engage in activities to support the development and completion of the corporate and department business plans, ensuring alignment with
  • Council’s Strategic Plan and Goals
  • Support the completion of department service profiles, subservice alignment and measurement systems
  • Support public engagement, briefings and analysis, on Council’s Strategic Plan and Corporate Business Plan
  • Assess, evaluate and integrate best practices in business process improvement and strategic alignment
  • Provide accurate, timely and understandable information through the production of briefings, research reports and other presentation materials as required

Job Requirements:

  • Significant ability and skill in establishing and maintaining relationships, leading/facilitating meetings of multiple stakeholders
  • University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline
  • Ability to confidently build effective working relationships with all levels of management
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measures and budgets and business case development, risk, policy, including experience working with different strategic models
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and team building skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to understand and share a broader vision (i.e. links to corporate/branch strategic goals, strategic plans, political requirements)
  • Excellent project and process management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects/processes concurrently and proactively
  • Ability to communicate, persuade and negotiate, build consensus with people at varying levels
  • Knowledge of research methods, including knowledge of research design and implementation, data collection techniques, results analysis and presentation
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communications skills, including report writing along with strong facilitation and presentation development skills
  • Ability to effectively gather, synthesize, integrate and interpret multi-faceted information from a wide range of sources and perspectives
  • Knowledge of strategic and business planning principles, policy development, benchmarking and procedures for alignment of performance measures with corporate and department business plan goals, risk management and budget development processes
  • Accounting designation (CPA,CMA, CA, CGA) is an asset
  • Project management certification or coursework is considered an asset
