Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Integrated Technology Solutions, the Technical Lead is responsible for planning, directing, and developing architectural and practice standards aligning with Council strategy, branch initiatives, and industry best practices. This position works as an agent for City Council, the Executive Leadership Team, and the Open City & Technology (OCT) Branch.
Job Responsibilities:
- Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
- Work closely with internal partners to translate strategic directives into operational practices for data centres, campus, and cloud services
- Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government, community organizations and internal departments and branches
- Continue to monitor and improve upon the performance measurement system (i.e. key performance indicators) is established, monitored and that timely corrective actions are taken to ensure the efficient delivery of service.
- Facilitate and enable automation, orchestration, and the migration to cloud-based applications and virtual services
Continue to design operational standards of practice and ensure business continuity and resiliency are built into the foundation of the solution design - Collaborate with the network and server services teams to align campus, data center, fiber, cloud, and partner networks
- Align the various technical teams in ongoing efforts to transform the City network into a secured “zero trust” segmentation model and provide a highly reliable and resilient network
- Continue to align practices with Corporate and the OCT Branch strategic plans
Job Requirements:
- Communicate with strong political acumen, strategic planning, issue resolution and decision-making skills
- Build a respectful workplace culture through a values-based influencer approach and work collaboratively
- Integrate multi-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively with partners to support corporate priorities
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- CCNP, VCP, ITIL, CISSP and/or other related technology-specific certifications and diplomas are considered an asset
- Apply knowledge or training and/or education in Computing Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline(s)
- Actively participate in the development of strategies for the Branch
- Utilize experience in network design/architecture; network operations; network security; network planning, design and implementation
- Think strategically to address large, complex issues, to manage emergent projects while steering dynamically
- Understand complex municipal subject matter and build influential relationships with Council, external agencies, orders of government, community organizations and internal departments and branches
- Present complex ideas to diverse audiences, build positive relationships and establish clear expectations
- Demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe;
- Leverage experience and knowledge of IP networks, routing, layer 2 and layer 3, switching and routing
- Service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness
