The Faculty of Health Studies offers degrees in nursing, psychiatric nursing and a Master’s program in psychiatric nursing. The Faculty of Health Studies has a robust research culture, which is supported by the Research Facilitator. The Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health (CCSRMH) promotes innovative, community-connected research and education to inform rural mental health and wellness policies and practices, responds to the issues facing rural people and communities, and develops expertise for understanding and planning for Canada’s rural and remote health and wellness. Applications are invited for one (1) .6 FTE Professional Associate position within the Faculty of Health Studies. The incumbent will facilitate a culture of research within the Faculty of Health Studies as well as within the CCSRMH. The Research Facilitator is situated in the Faculty of Health Studies and reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Health Studies. The Research Facilitator co-manages the CCSRMH with the Director of the Centre.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing relationships/partnerships within the community to promote research that is responsive to the community
  • Communicating with and establishing relationships with funding agencies
  • Providing process support to faculty in applying for grants and achieving research objectives (e.g. literature searches, assistance in completion of grant forms, assistance with ethics – whether BU ethics or external agencyethics)
  • Providing relevant training to support faculty members in applying for grants and in completing research activities
  • Overseeing the operation of the Centre and Health Studies Research Office
  • Seeking out new research funding opportunities
  • Hiring and training research assistants
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Dean in consultation with the incumbent
  • Supporting research faculty in disseminating research ( e.g. assistance with publication, oral or poster presentations)
  • Developing networks between the Centre, Health Studies researchers, Brandon University faculty, and research centers/institutes internal and external to the University
  • Participating in the orientation and mentorship of new Health Studies faculty members
  • Overseeing the development of reports, policy briefs and fact sheets for the Centre
  • Along with the Executive Team of the Centre, developing strategic plans for the Centre
  • Assisting graduate students in their pursuit of scholarly activities
  • Promoting internal communication with faculty members on matters pertaining to rural mental health research,

Job Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience interacting with professional community and academic sectors
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and multitasking ability
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Masters degree in nursing or psychiatric nursing preferred. Other masters prepared health fields will be considered.
  • Evidence of research skills (publications, project coordination, successful grant applications)
  • Expertise in grant writing and seeking research funding opportunities
  • Expertise in group facilitation.
  • Experience mentoring student research assistants
